Biography
Sandra Reeders grew up in the Eastern Cape, in the Addo area, where she attended art school. After exploring various artistic techniques, styles, and subjects, she discovered her true passion: plein air painting. Now residing in the picturesque town of Rhodes in the Eastern Cape, Sandra primarily focuses on creating large landscapes that capture the beauty of the Southern Drakensberg.
Technique
Sandra’s technique is characterized by thick, aggressive brush strokes and flamboyant colors. She completes her paintings in one session, drawing inspiration from Van Gogh, who also painted in a single sitting. Sandra believes that a scene’s essence changes from day to day, and painting en plein air allows her to capture the movement and energy of nature, providing an immediacy and authenticity that working from photographs cannot achieve.
Medium
Sandra exclusively uses oil paint on canvas.
